On December 4, 2023, Kripke hinted at a particularly outrageous scene planned for the season, suggesting it could be the most audacious moment ever filmed for the series and expressing his surprise at pushing boundaries. He teased the season’s structure, highlighting that each episode promises exhilarating moments, with episode five featuring standout sequences and episode six consistently leaving him in awe. This season promises an abundance of thrilling developments for fans to anticipate.
Casting
On July 8, 2022, it was announced that Nathan Mitchell, known for his role as the masked Black Noir in the first three seasons, would return to portray a new iteration of the character, “Black Noir II,” in a prominent role for the fourth season, despite the character’s apparent death in the third season finale.
Following this, on August 1, it was reported that Cameron Crovetti had been promoted to a series regular for the fourth season. Additionally, Valorie Curry and Susan Heyward were cast as new series regulars, enhancing the ensemble.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan joined the cast on August 25 as a recurring guest star for the fourth season.

On May 3, 2024, the official trailer for the fourth season revealed that Maddie Phillips and Asa Germann would be reprising their roles from Gen V as Cate Dunlap and Sam Riordan, respectively.
Discussing the inspiration behind Valorie Curry’s character, Firecracker, showrunner Eric Kripke drew parallels to controversial politicians like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert. He noted that while they were developing the character, they didn’t initially have South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem in mind, but recent events, such as her controversial actions, aligned with their conceptualization of Firecracker.
