Social media is full of short videos called reels. People love watching them, and they are made everywhere, from train stations to tourist spots. Many people, including those with jobs, spend hours watching these reels every day. Unfortunately, these fun videos got two police officers into trouble.
The Officers and the Reel
The two officers, Dharmendra Sharma and Ritesh Kumar, were posted at Ankur Vihar police station in Ghaziabad. They made a reel with a property dealer named Sartaj. In the video, they tried to show off, acting like they were providing special security to Sartaj. In the first part of the reel, the officers are seen sitting in Sartaj’s office. In the second part, they are walking together as if Sartaj is a very important person and they are his bodyguards.
The Consequences
The reel was posted on social media and quickly went viral. People started asking many questions. They wondered if Sartaj had special security and why the police were involved with him. These questions put pressure on the police department to respond. As a result, both officers were suspended, and a departmental inquiry was started against them. Additionally, Sartaj, the property dealer, was arrested for making and sharing the video.
Police Department’s Actions
Sartaj’s office is in the Pavi Sadiqpur area of Tronika City police station. The officers were not supposed to be in that area, which raised more questions. The police department is also looking into why they were at Sartaj’s office in the first place.
Social Media Rules for Police
Last year, the Uttar Pradesh Police issued a set of rules, called the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), about using social media. According to these rules, police officers are not allowed to make videos or reels in their uniforms. They also cannot debate or comment on social media while in uniform. Uploading videos that can damage the police’s reputation is also not allowed, even when off duty.
