Local reports indicate that the mob was led by Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, a former Rajya Sabha MP and the 13th descendant of the legendary Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The incident has triggered a wave of condemnation from various quarters, highlighting the increasing tensions and communal discord in the region.

Authorities are under pressure to take swift action against the perpetrators and ensure such incidents do not recur. The vandalism has not only damaged the mosque but also hurt the sentiments of the local Muslim community, adding to the existing communal tensions.

Community leaders and activists are calling for peace and urging the government to strengthen security measures around religious sites. Owaisi Criticizes Shinde and Maharashtra Government Over Viral Video

Taking to social media platform X, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi criticized the Maharashtra government for its failure to prevent the recent mosque vandalism incident in Kolhapur.

“December 6 continues. Under your government, a Masjid is attacked by a mob. This is an attack on the rule of law, but your government is not concerned. Muslims of Maharashtra must respond through the ballot by ensuring AIMIM candidates win the forthcoming elections. This will stop the mobs and the political leaders and parties who give them patronage and support. Remember the silence of parties who are claiming they won a ‘moral victory,'” stated Owaisi.

Owaisi’s statement refers to the date December 6, symbolically important as the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, implying a continuity of anti-Muslim violence. His call to action urges the Muslim community to use their votes to challenge the parties he accuses of either supporting or silently condoning such acts of violence.

The incident in Kolhapur, where a mosque was vandalized and homes of neighboring Muslims were attacked, has heightened communal tensions. Owaisi’s appeal underscores the political dimensions of communal violence, urging a democratic response to uphold justice and protect minority rights in Maharashtra.

The violent outbreak led to around 40 Muslims

According to viral videos on social media platform X and local ground reports, a mob not only vandalized a mosque in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, but also targeted the homes of neighboring Muslims. The violent outbreak led to around 40 Muslims, including children, sustaining injuries.

Footage of the incident shows mob members scaling the mosque, using a hammer to break its minaret, and hoisting saffron flags on the roof. The mob can also be heard chanting “Jai Shri Ram,” adding to the charged communal atmosphere.

This act of vandalism, led by Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, a former Rajya Sabha MP and the 13th descendant of Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has intensified communal tensions in the area. The local community is reeling from the attack, with significant damage to the mosque and nearby homes, and widespread fear and unrest among residents.

Community leaders are calling for immediate government intervention to prevent further violence and to restore peace. Authorities are urged to protect religious sites and ensure the safety of all citizens. The incident highlights the urgent need for promoting communal harmony and addressing the root causes of such violence in the region.
