Production
In early February 2021, reports surfaced that S. Shankar had impressed Ram Charan with a script for a historical drama film, leading to discussions between the two. It was revealed that the project would be filmed simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu languages, with an official announcement slated for Valentine’s Day of that year. Shortly after, Ram Charan confirmed the collaboration through his social media channels. The film, backed by Dil Raju and Sirish’s Sri Venkateswara Creations, marked their first venture with both Shankar and Charan.
On 12 February, the production company officially announced the project under the working titles RC15 and SVC50. The film’s ultimate title, “Game Changer,” was unveiled on 27 March 2023, coinciding with Charan’s birthday. Initially estimated at ₹200 crore (US$24 million), the film’s production budget was reportedly reduced to ₹170 crore (US$20 million) at the producer’s request. However, due to the resumption of production on Shankar’s “Indian 2,” filming of “Game Changer” faced delays, necessitating a budget increase to ₹240 crore (US$29 million) to complete all scheduled shoots for the film.
Filming
The film commenced with a formal launch on 8 September 2021 at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad, marked by a traditional pooja ceremony attended by notable figures including Ranveer Singh, Chiranjeevi, and S. S. Rajamouli.
Principal photography commenced on 22 October 2021, with the first schedule concluding in early November. Filming locations included Maharashtra, specifically Pune, Satara, and Phaltan. Additionally, a song sequence was filmed for 10 days at a specially constructed set in Ramoji Film City, featuring international dancers and choreographed by Jani Master. Reports indicated that approximately ₹23 crore (US$2.8 million) was allocated for this song production.
During this period, the team also filmed a high-octane 7-minute action sequence, which reportedly cost ₹70 crore (US$8.4 million). Action choreographers like Anbariv were enlisted to design these intricate sequences.
The third filming schedule commenced in February 2022, spanning approximately 20 days in Andhra Pradesh. Locations included Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Kovvur, and other areas across the West Godavari and East Godavari districts.
Release
In January 2022, Dil Raju announced plans to release the film in January 2023, aligning with the festive occasion of Sankranthi. However, due to production delays and the scheduling of Raju’s Tamil-language production “Varisu,” the release of the film has been postponed to April 2024.
The film is set to premiere in Telugu, alongside dubbed versions in Tamil and Hindi. Initially, Zee Studios acquired the distribution rights for the film for ₹350 crore. However, as of April 2024, it has been revealed that AA Films is also involved in distributing the film across North India.
