However, Marvel Studios took over and started to work on a new film featuring Deadpool that would be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This new film would maintain the R rating of the previous Deadpool movies, making it the first MCU film with such a rating. In November 2020, Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin joined as writers for the project, bringing their creative expertise to the table. Additionally, the original Deadpool writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, returned to contribute to the script.
In March 2022, Shawn Levy was appointed as the director, adding his unique vision to the project. The excitement escalated in August 2022 when Hugh Jackman, known for his iconic portrayal of Wolverine in Fox’s X-Men films, decided to reprise his role. This announcement thrilled fans and raised anticipations for the film.
By May 2023, it was confirmed that the talented trio of Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Shawn Levy would be contributing to the script. The momentum carried on as filming commenced in May 2023, starting at Pinewood Studios in England and later including additional scenes shot in Norfolk and at Bovingdon Film Studios.
Unfortunately, production hit a snag in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, causing a temporary suspension. However, the team regrouped and filming resumed in November, eventually wrapping up in January 2024.
Finally, the title of the film was revealed a month later, marking another exciting milestone in the journey of bringing ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ to the big screen
